How to Structure your Video
Feb 12th, 2015No Comments
We all know that video is key to our marketing but knowing how to set up a video so that the message you convey creates action is not so easily accomplished. Today I’d like to give you a simple way to structure any video so you get people excited, interested – and activated!
Let’s break it down:
Intro:
- “Hi this is (person) from (where you work).”
- Very simple. Nothing fancy. Just name and where you spend your time during the day!
Create Curiosity:
- Make a statement that creates curiosity about your topic “Have you ever wondered…” or something like along those lines.
- Create mystery because it hooks people every time!
- State that the video will answer that question
Answer the Question:
- Answer the question simply using a bright conversational tone
- Typically you will speak faster than in normal life – about 20% faster
- Too much pausing will cause a lack of attention…and they’ll all leave!
- Don’t go chipmunk, but avoid too much pausing
Wrap it up
- Refer back to the original “creating curiosity” and prove that you’ve answered it
- Now they’ll never have to wonder about that question again!
Outro:
- Restate your name and position if necessary to reinforce authority
- Let people know where they can go to get more information about the topic
- Let them know if there will be more videos, and where they will be housed (YouTube, video repository on your website, etc.)
The best videos have one single topic, and are about 1 minute long. So think in ones:
- One Topic
- One Minute Long
- One Activation Goal (what do you want them to do once they’re done watching the video?)
Go Video! Send me a link to your video – I’d love to share it!
